Alone, together, a brother and sister, Opal and Rust, must leave their dying woodland home, and travel to the edge of all things in search of their stolen-away mother.

The world outside the wood is dark and treacherous, and home to many a bizarre and foul creature. With each other's help, the children must grow up fast and overcome their inner demons to navigate the lands of Fear and Desire, before the sun sets on their world, and any hope of seeing their mother again is lost forever.
